Gas prices are rising and will be rising a lot in the future.
We're all trying to reduce fuel consumption to save on gas and reduce emissions as well. Environment pollution is another factor that you might not care about a lot, but you should, and car emissions are responsible for pollution a lot.
Being able to save just a bit on fuel today can make a notable difference due to the prices gas has reached.
If you can you should absolutely consider catching the bus, getting a bicycle or moving by car but together ( 3 persons from the same suburb going to the same workplace with 3 SUVs makes absolutely no sense today, and harms your wallet too ).
You should think about reviewing your driving technique in order to increase your mpg.
Air conditioning isn't always necessary
There's a huge difference between using the air conditioning system or just ventilation fans. Air conditioning can increase fuel consumption up to 12% more. Most times fans and windows are more than enough when it's not too hot.
Use the car only when you really need it. Today we use cars everyday, we work far from home, need to transport stuff etc, but sometimes you could actually not use it. This will actually reduce emissions and save gas, and a walk from time to time won't kill you.
Think before you go. When you have to go somewhere think about the trip you'll do. Avoid steep hills if possible, a car consumes a lot more fuel when climbing a hill than on a plain road. Obviously you can't apply this to your everyday drive to work, but are you sure there isn't a better path to get there?
No hurry! Avoid quick accelerations and brakings: this will save you a lot of fuel (it's probably the most important thing to consider). Moreover these behaviors wear your tires faster, if you avoid them your tires will last longer saving you money and (on large scale) avoiding pollution due to tires production. Again, your gas consumption will be reduced a lot.
If you can buy an ecologic car: hybrid models use less gasoline as well as smaller cars.
Keep your tires correctly inflated: underinflated tires burn more gas.
Have your car serviced from time to time: a car in good conditions as far as it regards the engine and all the mechanical components uses less gas than a badly kept one.
